Melbecks offer pet friendly self catering accommodation just one mile from Bassenthwaite in the Lake District. At Melbecks we look forward to welcoming you and your dog(s). The Lake District is a great place to bring your dog and we can provide advice on where you can walk your dog locally, on and off the lead.
Our cottage allow the following dogs:
Uldale – sleeps 6 people and up to 3 dogs
Skiddaw – sleeps 4 people and up to 2 dogs
Dash – sleeps 4 people and up to 2 dogs
Dodd – sleeps 4 people and up to 2 dogs
Randel – sleeps 2 people and 1 – 2 dogs
Udale - Leading through the original barn entrance, which has retained its traditional large doors, Uldale has a slate floor hall way with attached utility and boot room, containing a washer, dryer and useful hanging racks. A glazed doorway opens to the downstairs hall, off which are a shower room and two bedrooms. The romantic double bedroom has a four poster bed and several stairs leading to a small area by the window, giving unique character to the room. Opposite is a spacious twin bedded room, with additional bed if required. The dog-leg stairs rise directly into the open plan kitchen/dining and sitting area. A modern kitchen with beech units, a Velux window, and large table opens out to a comfortable sitting room with three sofas and “living flame” fire. Views of Skiddaw and Ullock Pike through the copse are to be enjoyed here. Also on the first floor is a further double bedroom, with a Velux window and en-suite bathroom.
Skiddaw - This provides spacious accommodation for four people. On the ground floor, an entrance hall leads into the open-plan kitchen/dining and sitting room, complete with upright piano and two large sofas. Windows to the front of the sitting room have views down the valley to Bassenthwaite Lake, giving evening sunlight and spectacular sunsets. Upstairs there is a pretty double bedroom, and twin bedroom looking out towards the lake. A bathroom consisting of a bath with shower over, washbasin and WC is directly off the landing.
Dash - This is a conventionally arranged cottage that looks out towards Skiddaw, with views from the double bedroom towards Bassenthwaite Lake. Dash provides spacious accommodation for four people. On the ground floor, the entrance leads into the open-plan kitchen/dining, complete with dining table and chairs, and a fully fitted kitchen. An open arch leads through to the lounge where settees and chairs are arranged around the TV. Dog-leg stairs lead up to the bedrooms; a double to the side and a twin bedroom to the rear – both views views towards Skiddaw. The double bedroom has an en-suite WC. There is a family bathroom, with bath and mixer shower over, washbasin and WC.
Dodd - This provides cosy accommodation for four in an open-plan design, with the barn's original high beamed ceiling open to the eaves. With the entrance directly into the sitting area, there are two comfortable sofas, with lots of natural light provided from the roof Velux, large gable end window and a further window overlooking the meadow. Stairs lead up into the galleried double bedroom high in the barn’s roof space. A pretty floral twin bedroom is tucked away to the back of the property on the ground floor, next to the shower room.
Randel - As a former farmstead byre, Randel features high beamed ceilings open to the eaves, with plenty of natural light from two gable windows, a roof Velux and window out on to the wooded garden. Entrance is directly into the studio accommodation, consisting of a well fitted kitchen, dining facilities for two, and a comfortable compact sitting/sleeping area. Armchairs give way across the room to a wrought iron double-bed. There is a separate shower room with WC and washbasin. Randel provides both characterful and economical accommodation in beautiful surroundings leading directly on to Skiddaw fells.
Outside - The Games Room is shared by all our cottages and contains Table Football, Table Tennis, Pool Table. There are many other board games and garden games for you and your children. The Lake District is famous not only for its beauty but also its weather and the games room provides an dry a safe environment in which to spend a rainy day.
