Southwaite Green is a small collection of luxurious and spacious eco cottages in a completely secluded rural setting, just off the Vale of Lorton near Cockermouth in Cumbria. Set in 10 acres of developing grounds, with pond, wildflower meadows, woodlands, organic fruit and beck running through, it is a completely different holiday experience.

The four eco cottages have been built in a traditional manner using recycled or sustainable materials. Craftsmen from the local area have been employed throughout. Comfort and elegance, quiet and privacy and lots of space both inside and out, together with the opportunity for green living, make Southwaite Green unique.

Esther’s Barn

This cottage offers two ground-floor bedrooms, each with an en-suite shower, one with a double bed and the other with twin beds that can convert into a super king-size. The first-floor houses an open-plan living, kitchen and dining area, complete with a log-burning stove. A decked patio equipped with seasonal garden furniture provides lovely countryside views.

Skiddaw

Skiddaw mirrors the layout of Esther’s Barn with two ground-floor bedrooms, each with an en-suite shower. It has a double bed in one room and twin beds (convertible to super king-size) in the other. The first-floor features an open-plan living space with a snug built into the traditional barn doors, offering views of the courtyard and the Western Fells. It also includes a decked patio with garden furniture and panoramic views.

Buttermere

Buttermere is designed for accessibility, featuring two ground-floor double bedrooms, one specially equipped with wheelchair turning space. It includes a wet room with a walk-in shower featuring a pull-down seat and disabled facilities. The kitchen in the open-plan living area is adapted for wheelchair users with lower work surfaces. There's also a log-burning stove and full-length windows. Outside, a terrace with garden furniture overlooks the beck, arboretum and countryside, with convenient parking and reversing space right at the front door.

Beckside

This cottage has a ground-floor twin bedroom where the beds can be joined to form a super king-size bed. It includes a bathroom with both a bath and a separate shower. The open-plan living area features a fireplace made from original barn materials and a log-burning stove. A galleried landing leads to two king-size bedrooms, each with a dressing area and en-suite shower rooms. Outside, there's a terrace with seasonal garden furniture overlooking the beck and providing views of the Lakeland.

For additional sleeping options, single folding beds are available for Skiddaw, Esther’s Barn and Buttermere for an extra charge of £35 per bed per week. Guests may book multiple cottages for larger family or group holidays, with a total accommodation capacity for up to 20 people.
