Intake Cottage

Swaledale, North Yorkshire
Sleeps: 1 to 4

Details

Situated between Low Row and Gunnerside within the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park, Intake Cottage offers an idyllic retreat for nature enthusiasts. This prime location boasts breathtaking panoramic views of the Yorkshire Dale and the River Swale, famously known as 'the wild one,' which flows just a short distance from the cottage. This property serves as a quintessential example of a Dales country cottage from the 18th century, originally part of a farmhouse and utilised as a retreat during World War II by its current owners.

The cottage exudes charm with its original features, such as beamed ceilings, flagstone floors and an 18th-century cast iron fireplace. Its interior is thoughtfully decorated with a blend of antique items and comfortable furnishings, creating a cosy atmosphere ideal for unwinding by the fire. The kitchen has been updated to a shaker style, featuring a traditional Belfast sink and stone pantry shelves, making it a delight for those who love to cook. The master bedroom upstairs offers stunning views across the Dale, complete with a double bed, wardrobe, dressing table and en-suite bathroom. A second bedroom, accessed through the master bedroom, offers south-facing views and includes a 3ft single bed with a pull-out guest bed and ample storage.

Outside, the cottage features a raised garden facing south, overlooking a meadow of wildflowers leading down to the River Swale, complete with a patio terrace, garden furniture and a barbecue for outdoor dining when the weather allows. For those colder days, the 'Hobby' summerhouse provides a shelter for wildlife watching or reading. There is parking for one car.

There is also an annex, Swallows Byre. It sleeps 2 people in one bedroom and has its own garden, summer house and parking. This annex has stunning south facing views, oak flooring, a wood burning stove and comfortable furnishings.

Swaledale is celebrated for its wildflower meadows, sheep, dry stone walls and historical lead-mining ruins, making Intake Cottage an ideal base for exploring the area. Nearby attractions include Reeth, Muker, and Keld, with the market town of Richmond just a bit further. For cycling enthusiasts, the cottage offers an excellent starting point for tackling famous climbs such as The Stang, The Buttertubs, and Tan Hill, among others.
