The Fort Cottages

Solva, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire
Sleeps: 1 to 4

Details

The Fort Cottages offers outstanding self catering accommodation overlooking Solva harbour, St Bride’s Bay and the unspoilt headlands of the Pembrokeshire National Park.

Fort Cottages 1 and 2 are nestled in their own grounds and boast terraced gardens, whilst the majestic sea is below. Guests need to be aware that ceilings are low and that there is an original steep “ship’s stairs” between the two floors which may not be suitable for some guests and young children. The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path passes just yards from the cottages garden. We are literally on the coast.

Fort Cottage 1 This charming cottage comes with a beamed lounge area with a toasty log burner and comfortable seating which takes advantage of the amazing sea views. Gorgeous original ship stairs lead to the two bedrooms: 1 double and 1 twin.

Fort Cottage 2 Our delightful cottage has a lovely lounge area with a log burner and seating. This is a great spot to admire the glorious sea views. Upstairs there are two bedrooms: a double and twin room.

Fort Cottage 3 This fabulous cottage was finished in 2021 and boasts slate floors and exposed beams, plus toasty underfloor heating. Downstairs there is a stylish open plan lounge/kitchen/dining. The kitchen is well-equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave and fridge. The lounge area, with its log burner and comfortable sofa, is the perfect place to relax in the evenings. The modern shower room is also located on this floor. Upstairs there is a double room which enjoys glorious sea views. French doors open onto a wonderful balcony area where you can savour the stunning views from.

Solva was, in the 19th century, a thriving fishing and coastal haven. Today there are a handful of lobster fishing boats, and the harbour is filled with yachts and dinghies. The ebbing tide reveals unspoilt gently shelving beaches, rock pools and caves. For the swimmer, the sunbather, and the sandcastle builder, there is a wide selection of beaches, some of the finest in Britain. The surf is excellent at the larger beaches, and expert surfing tuition is available. The beaches too are good for canoeing – sheltered harbour for the beginner, rocky coast and caves for the experienced.
