Willowbank Lodges

Pewsey, Wiltshire
Sleeps: 1 to 4

Details

Willowbank Self Catering Lodges nestle in a small hamlet bordering the Kennet and Avon canal in the heart of the Pewsey Vale in Wiltshire and are surrounded by beautiful countryside and stunning wildlife. The log cabins have been constructed using Russian redwood timber from sustainable forests and are designed to be lived in all year round. They are thermally very efficient, being cool in the summer and warm in the winter, making a winter break a cosy and unique experience.

All cabins have been thoughtfully designed and have bespoke, hand painted kitchens, big beds, comfy sofas, en suite bathrooms, spacious colour co-ordinated living rooms and each has a generous, covered balcony designed for sitting out in all seasons. The larger cabins are accessed by a ramp making them accessible for wheelchair users and they are on one level only. The cabins either overlook the stream which runs through the site or the one-acre spring-fed lake which is home to a variety of waterfowl including our indigenous pair of nesting swans (the hen has been sitting on her island nest since the beginning of March).

Guests’ comfort has been a priority when decorating and furnishing the cabins. The interiors are cheerful and bright with a selection of stripes and checks at the windows to co-ordinate with the soft furnishings and which contribute to the experience of living in a log cabin. Although the living rooms are large, the lamps and pictures together with the check curtains make for a very cosy feel when the nights draw in and the lights are turned on and would be a wonderful place to spend a winter break.

The generous kitchens have all been hand-built with individually painted shaker style units. They are well equipped with everything you need for a self catering break away and in addition to the usual kitchen equipment, I provide washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, kitchen cleaning equipment, filled salt mills, pepper grinders and cooking salt and the freezing compartments will have filled ice trays ready for a stiff drink upon arrival! All the cabins have flat-screen TV’s with Freesat, DVD/CD players and a plentiful supply of books and a few games. DVD’s can be rented for a small cost and a list will be supplied with the other guest information contained in a folder which is kept in each cabin. Each cabin is electrically heated and has an immersion heater for hot water. Well behaved dogs will be welcome at our discretion for River Birch, Bullrush and Kingfisher only, at a small extra charge.

1 Bedroom Cabins:

These cabins are spacious even though they only have one bedroom and have the same level of comfort as the larger ones. The cabins have been built back to back with verandas facing in opposite directions with one having lovely views of the lake (River Birch) and the other overlooking the pretty stream and benefiting from the evening sun (Heron’s Nest). The cabins are accessed by two steps with handrail onto the veranda to the French doors which open directly into the open plan living room. The table and chairs are in the kitchen area next to the large window, so plenty of light to read the paper at breakfast time (if you are not having an al fresco breakfast on the veranda) or if you are working on your laptop. The sitting areas are very comfortably furnished with a sofa and armchair, cushions, a rug, coffee tables, lamps and of course the large flat-screen TV. From the living room, a door leads directly into a generous bedroom with a super-king size bed with bedside tables and lamps, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The bed may be divided into twin beds if requested. The en-suite bathroom is large, with a big shower bath, a loo with shelving over and pedestal basin with large mirror, light and shaving point. There are two cupboards in the bathroom – one containing the immersion heater and the other is the utility cupboard for the guests’ use. There is space above the cupboard to store suitcases or anything else needed to be kept out of the way for the duration of the stay.

2 Bedroom Cabins:

These cabins are of a similar interior design as the smaller ones, ie, fun stripes and checks, bright rugs, squashy sofas, comfy beds and smart kitchens. They are of course much larger, having two bedrooms – master bedroom with slightly larger than average king size bed and en-suite bathroom and the other, larger bedroom (to allow a third bed if required) with its own separate spacious shower room. This bedroom has twin divan beds which can be joined to make a super-king (6ft) bed if requested. The bedrooms are to the back of the cabins off the internal hallway and separated by a door leading into the large, open plan living room, so this can be shut for guest’s privacy and for a sound barrier. The cabins are entered via a side door accessed by a ramp suitable for wheelchair users and which leads into the utility room. Your car(s) can be parked directly next to the ramp for your convenience, particularly useful when carrying in heavy luggage or shopping. The utility room has a washer/drier, sink and pegs for coats.

It also houses the hot water cylinder and broom cupboard and would be a useful and warm place for a wet dog! The utility room also leads into the internal hallway and from there you can either turn right to the bedrooms or left to the living room. The open plan living room is very spacious, about 7m x 5m, with a three-seater and two-seater sofa, rug, coffee tables, lamps, pictures, dresser and/or bookcase, TV, etc.

The dining tables can seat 4/5 people with the fifth chair positioned in the hallway. The room has windows on all three sides and French doors are leading directly onto the covered veranda, from which there are two steps leading down onto the grassy areas (I do have a child gate which could be positioned in this gap to keep in a child or dog if required).

These five luxury lodges have been recently built on a three-and-a-half-acre site previously used as a trout farm and in earlier years, as watercress beds. The cabins are ideally situated to take advantage of the modern conveniences of the local village of Pewsey or the famous town of Marlborough, whilst at the same time enabling the visitor to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this very special part of Wiltshire.

We are very privileged to be living in an area steeped in tradition and history, with three World Heritage sites within an easy driving distance (Stonehenge, Avebury and Bath). We have many delightful towns and villages to explore, country houses, museums and gardens to visit and plenty of traditional pubs and excellent restaurants.

We have a quick rail link to London from Pewsey Station less than a five-minute drive away and you could plan a day/evening out in London to enjoy the sites and take in a theatre.

Oxford, Salisbury and Bath are also within a reasonable drive away and offer good shopping, restaurants, theatres and interesting places to visit.
