Abingdon is the oldest continuously inhabited town in Britain, a trading centre for tribal Britons. Abingdon Abbey was founded in the 7th century and was larger than Westminster Abbey is today. After the dissolution of the monasteries the Abbey itself was destroyed but some of the buildings remain and can be seen from the windows of the flat.

It now houses Abingdonís museum.
