Portbahn and Shorefield are two neighbouring self-catering houses on the Isle of Islay, each accommodating 6-8 guests. Ideal for families or whisky enthusiasts, they offer plenty of comfortable beds and are within walking distance of Bruichladdich Distillery. Both houses are conveniently located along the cycle path between Bruichladdich and Port Charlotte, with its selection of restaurants and pubs. Just a short walk away is Portbahn Beach, an ideal spot for early morning wild swimming.

Portbahn

Portbahn is a modern, well-insulated house situated along the shoreline of Loch Indaal, offering open-plan living with airy spaces and stunning sea views. The kitchen, lounge, dining area and back conservatory flow seamlessly, with WiFi throughout and amenities including a TV, Freesat box, DVD player, a large collection of DVDs, books and games. A log-burning stove and underfloor heating ensure a cosy stay year-round. The house features three ground-floor bedrooms: a master bedroom with a super king and single bed (sleeps 3) and an en-suite, a triple bedroom with a double and single bed (sleeps 3) and a twin bedroom with two single beds (sleeps 2). Shorefield

Situated along the shoreline of Loch Indaal, Shorefield is a well-insulated eco-house powered by its own wind and solar energy, offering a unique and charming retreat. The house sleeps six comfortably with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and features a large kitchen table and a dining room table, both seating six. While the house is not modern and shows some signs of wear, it has recently been repainted inside and out and all mattresses, linen and towels are new, sourced from Mitre Linen. Guests often praise its quaintness, character and the personal touches left by the owners, including books, maps, paintings and antiques that tell a story of the house’s history. With a wood-burning stove, books, games, a large garden, woodland, ponds and a nearby bird reserve built by the owners, Shorefield offers a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature, perfect for bird lovers and those looking to unwind. The holiday homes are conveniently located just a 10-minute walk from Bruichladdich Distillery, where you can enjoy whisky and Botanist gin tours, as well as the village shop and post office offering great coffee, toasties and sandwiches. Pet-friendly and surrounded by natural beauty, the homes provide easy access to beaches, wild swimming spots and the distillery path right on your doorstep. Port Charlotte, with its selection of restaurants, pubs, beaches and a shop, is just a 5-minute drive or a 20-minute walk away, making it an ideal base for exploring the area.
