Ballivicar Farm Cottages are 3 rural self catering holiday homes that are located on a family run farm just outside of Port Ellen on the Isle of Islay. We are in a great location for people who want to escape to the countryside and are only a short journey from the rest of Argyll, Bute and The Islands.

The Chougherie has three bedrooms (2 double bedrooms and one twin), lounge/living area, open plan kitchen and separate bathroom.

The Hayloft has one bedroom (twin beds), large living area, open plan kitchen and en suite bathroom.

The Bothy (unavailable in 2024) has one bedroom (twin beds), living area, open plan kitchen and en suite bathroom. Extra beds available in The Chougherie and The Hayloft by arrangement.

Our holiday cottages are a 15 minute drive from the islands main ferry port, airport and only golf course. It is only a short journey to visit the many places of interest and attractions on the island such as the numerous undisturbed beaches and working distilleries. The area is fantastic for walkers and wildlife enthusiasts, we have owls nesting in the farm building and swallows and bats are everywhere. Since nothing is shot on the farm pheasants, hares, roe deer (and some red) and rabbits abound. Buzzards are commonplace, hen harriers and peregrines are also part of everyday life. In the winter there are geese, Greenland white-fronts and barnacles in large numbers.

History surrounds the farm and island from iron-age forts, standing stones, deserted townships and Celtic crosses, all within easy reach. But above all, Islay (and Ballivicar) is a healing place, a quiet, peaceful, un-polluted respite from an overcrowded world, 'remote', but in fact not remote at all, just a well-kept secret.
