You’ll find our traditional Highland hotel on the banks of the River Thurso, in the village of Halkirk. The hotel exudes 19th-century charm with traditional log fires and a host of charming rooms, while our lodges offer the same comfortable surroundings but with a more contemporary feel.

Originally built in 1878 as a family home, the hotel has 13 ensuite rooms, several of which overlook the River Thurso or the impressive stone-built Halkirk church and clock tower. In our main hotel building you can enjoy traditional comforts: high-quality furniture, the choice of a bath or a shower in your ensuite, complimentary toiletries and tea and coffee making facilities which include locally baked biscuits. Free wifi is available in all rooms - as you would expect from one of the top-rated hotels in Caithness.

Our hotel accommodation includes four premium double bedrooms, five standard doubles, four small doubles and one family room that has both a double and a single bed. Breakfast is the full Scottish number, as well as fresh fruit, juice, yoghurt and cereal. Free parking is available at the rear of the hotel.

Dale Lodge is located in the grounds of the Ulbster Arms Hotel, so guests can take a short stroll across the garden to enjoy meals or a drink in the hotel. The largest of our lodges, Dale Lodge offers modern, fresh decor and free parking right outside the door. The accommodation comprises seven small ensuite double bedrooms and two ensuite family rooms, each of which contains a double and a single bed.

If you’re looking for a smaller lodge or one with communal dining or living space, you might want to consider the Ulbster or Milton lodges.

At the Ulbster Arms Hotel and Lodges we offer several options for your dining experience. If you’re looking for relaxed or family-friendly dining, the Lounge Bar offers traditional comfort, while for finer dining, Beat 4 restaurant presents a more formal but still relaxed setting. During the summer months, light bites and nibbles are available to order, and we host occasional BBQs in the beer garden. You’re sure to have your appetite satisfied when you dine with us.
