Details

High Wallabarrow Farm Cottage offers a delightful and snug retreat, situated in a picturesque, deeply rural setting, surrounded by the imposing Wallabarrow Crag (soaring at 1000ft) and untouched open farmland at the front, providing awe-inspiring vistas in every direction.

This charming cottage is attached to the main farmhouse and provides all the expected comforts. The fully equipped kitchen, adorned with exposed wooden beams, features a dining table where you can enjoy your meals. A cosy living room opens up to the rear garden area, complete with a gentle brook running through it, creating a perfect spot for a BBQ or a relaxing evening with drinks. For those seeking dining options beyond the cottage, the Newfield Arms, a traditional pub renowned for its excellent food and real ales, is just a convenient 1.5-mile walk away.

On the ground floor, you'll find a comfortable double bedroom and a bathroom equipped with a shower. Ascending the stairs reveals a triple bedroom, offering both a double and a single bed for your convenience.

High Wallabarrow Farm, a traditional hilltop farm under the stewardship of the National Trust, is the cherished home of tenant farmer Chris and his family. They tend to a variety of livestock, including Herdwick Sheep. Situated at the end of a lane along the banks of the River Duddon, the farm presents an idyllic rural setting. Upon our visit to view the cottage, we were deeply impressed by the stunning surroundings and the warm hospitality extended by Chris and his family. You can certainly anticipate a similarly warm and friendly welcome during your stay.

The location is a paradise for avid hikers, with easy access to the Coniston Range Fells from your doorstep and the enchanting Duddon Valley awaiting exploration. A mere twenty-minute drive leads you to Broughton-in-Furness, a historic village with roots dating back to the 11th century. Here, you'll find charming pubs, a restaurant, traditional butchers, greengrocers and an outstanding bakery that we personally endorse. Nature enthusiasts will revel in the rich biodiversity of the farmland, which encompasses one of the most extensive oak birch woodlands in the region, recognised as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and adorned with a profusion of bluebells in the springtime.

For mountain biking enthusiasts, the numerous bridleways provide fantastic routes, whether you prefer ascending the fells or meandering along the relatively level country lanes. Rest assured, secure bike storage is readily available.
