Our historic castle is brimming with rich history and claims fame to being one of the few remaining intact Norman Keeps. In the 17th Century, the castle was the primary residence of Lady Anne Clifford, renowned for her many letter and diaries. The castle now offers outstanding accommodation in 12 stylish bedrooms, including Wi-Fi, a tea and coffee maker, complimentary toiletries, hair dryer and iron and ironing board. All of guests have full use of the castle’s facilities, including the great hall and games room.

The Clifford Bedroom: Decorated in a medieval style, the four-poster room overlooks the Inner Bailey and comes with a spacious private bathroom with a roll top bath and a separate walk-in shower.

The Evidence Bedroom: Based in the North East Tower, the room comes with an opulent 17th Century four poster oak bed, en suite bathroom and enjoys delightful views over the Pennines and River Eden.

The Thanet Bedroom: The bedroom features a double brass bed, antique furnishings and a private bathroom.

The Hothfield Bedroom: The light and airy room comes with an en suite bathroom and boasts gorgeous views of the Inner and Outer Bailey and the Norman Keep.

The State Bedroom: Located in the North East Tower, the en suite room comes with two 16th Century four poster beds, one with Lady Anne Clifford’s headboard, dating from 1590. The room is decorated with magnificent 16th Century tapestries and the wardrobes and other furnishings are antique.

The Atkinson Bedroom: Nestled in the old servant’s quarter, the bedroom includes a super king sized brass bed and en suite bathroom.

The Vipont Bedroom: Set atop the 17th Century staircase, the bedroom features a spacious king size four poster oak bed and use of the large bathroom across the hallway.

The Tufton Bedroom: Situated to the southern side of the castle, the bedroom includes two 17th Century double beds, a private bathroom and boasts lovely views of the Inner Bailey and the Keep.

The Russel Suite: Based in the old servants’ quarters, this huge room comes with a comfy super king size ornate oak carved bed and a separate bathroom with double sinks, walk in shower and a roll top bathtub.

The De Morville Room: This spacious room on the fourth floor of the castle features a super king-sized brass bed and en suite bathroom.

The Sackville Room: Located in the old servants’ quarters, the room includes a double brass bed, en suite bathroom and a high ceiling.

Like Meschin Suite: This suite is made up of two bedrooms on the ground floor, including a super king brass bed in each. Both rooms share a bathroom.

While staying with us you can savour a special gastronomic experience in the splendour of our 15th Century dining room. Dine by candlelight and enjoy wonderful food and superb wines to satisfy all your needs.

We are also the perfect location for a luxurious wedding in a glorious setting. Celebrate in true style after the ceremony in the Great Hall, originally built in 1454. The castle is also available for private celebrations, business conferences, filming and sporting events.
