The Barbon Inn
Details
The Barbon Inn is family run pet friendly 17th century coaching inn, which started life originally as a farmhouse. We are conveniently situated halfway between the Lake District National Park and the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the perfect location for exploring both.
The Coach Lamp Bar is the perfect place to relax in front of the wood burner with a drink or two and good company. We stock local ales, gins and rum, all well worth a tasting!
The courtyard beer garden offers a fabulous space for a drink or a meal in the glorious sunshine.
Some of our rooms enjoy stunning views over Barbon Low and Barbon High Fell.
The market town of Kirkby Lonsdale is roughly 3 miles away where there is a traditional market in the square every Thursday.
The famous Barbon Hill Climb is held in the nearby grounds of Barbon Manor. There are 2 race events for cars: the first in June and the second in July, these are very well attended with famous and local celebrities alike. There is also a motorbike event in June.
Catherine Grace Godwin, a Scottish novelist, amateur painter and poet lived most of her life in the village. When her mother tragically died in childbirth, she along with her sister were brought to live with Mary Warboys, a friend of her mother's. One of Godwin's most famous works is The Wanderer's Legacy and other poems, published in 1828.
She died on May 5th 1845 and is buried at St John the Evangelist Church, Firbank, Sedbergh.
Some things to do and see around the surrounding area:
Devils Bridge.
Ruskin's View, Kirkby Lonsdale.
Barbon Beck
Hutton Roof Crags.
The Ingleton Waterfall trails are roughly 10 miles away, with White Scar Caves about the same distance, both are well worth a visit.
The village of Dent is also one to see, with its narrow cobbled streets, white walled cottages & ancient church.
Sedbergh is one of Britain's leading book towns, situated under the backdrop of the Howgill Fells, a walker's paradise!
Malham has the most amazing massive natural limestone crescent shaped cove, which is visible for miles!
The stunning Ribbleshead Viaduct is a mere 16 or so miles away, again a must see!
We hope you enjoy your stay with us here at the Barbon Inn.
