Augill Castle
Details
Situated between the rolling landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, Augill Castle offers guests a rare opportunity to experience the charm of a genuine 19th-century castle with all the comforts of a modern country house. This family-run castle is renowned for its welcoming atmosphere, seamlessly blending historic grandeur with relaxed elegance.
Augill Castle offers a diverse range of accommodation, each thoughtfully designed to blend historic charm with modern comfort. From opulent castle suites to spacious family-friendly options, every room provides a unique and memorable stay.
Master King Rooms
These four stunning castle bedrooms showcase original period features such as 18th-century oak panelling, a turret wardrobe, a dramatic floor-to-ceiling arched Gothic window above the front porch, or a bay window spanning the full width of the room. Each room is individually styled with a mix of antique and modern four-poster beds, a sleigh bed, or an antique canopied half tester bed, complemented by luxurious bathrooms and picturesque views over the gardens. As the oldest rooms in the castle, they do not offer step-free access. Cots and rollaway beds are available on request, subject to availability.
Four Poster Superior Double Room
This characterful room features a gothic leaded window, rich oak panelling, a decorative fireplace from the turn of the century and an elegant Edwardian double four-poster bed. Adding to its charm, the wardrobe is set within a turret. The bathroom offers solid oak flooring and a luxurious double-ended bath with an overhead rainfall shower.
Master Super King/Twin
These rooms are either located on the ground floor within the historic Orangery, featuring two grand arched Gothic windows that open directly onto the garden, or upstairs at the eastern end of the main castle, complete with an original cast iron working fireplace. Some rooms include unique touches such as a turret wardrobe or even a four-poster bath. One room offers a wet room bathroom with a walk-in shower and level, step-free access for added convenience. All rooms can be arranged with either a super king bed or twin beds to suit your needs.
Garden Suites
These are three unique, self-contained suites perfect for added privacy and comfort. The Orangery sleeps up to four and features gothic arched windows, a secluded garden, a modern super king four-poster bed, a stylish bathroom and a day room with two antique brass single beds. The Gatehouse, ideal for two, is a split-level suite with a king four-poster bed, contemporary bathroom, spacious sitting room, private patio and a well-equipped galley kitchen. The Little Castle is a standalone mini castle with a turret and its own character, offering a king antique bed, a pull-out single, two bathrooms (one with a roll-top tub), a kitchen and a cosy sitting/dining area. Dogs are welcome in all three by prior arrangement, though they must be content being left alone, as the castle’s public spaces are pet-free.
Castle Interconnecting Suite
Known as The North Wing, this family suite consists of two interconnecting rooms - Derwent and Raisbeck, they are ideal for families or groups of friends travelling together. Derwent is a spacious first-floor room featuring two antique brass single beds, rich regal purple decor and whimsical poetry adorning the ceiling. It connects to Raisbeck, which offers a king-size antique brass bed and elegant blue and cream William Morris wallpaper. The two rooms share a beautifully appointed bathroom complete with a claw-footed bath, rainfall shower and double basins. There is also space for an additional foldaway bed if needed.
The Coach House
Located across the sunny courtyard from the main castle, The Coach House offers a self-contained accommodation option. This family estate house sleeps up to eight guests across four double bedrooms and includes a large family sitting room with a log-burning stove and baby grand piano. Guests have full access to the castle and its grounds, combining independence with the benefits of the main estate.
Each accommodation choice at Augill Castle is designed to provide guests with a unique experience, combining the grandeur of a historic castle with the comforts of modern living.
