Harebeck Holidays offers a choice of holiday accommodation in Gosforth in the Western Lake District. Our glamping units are located at Thornbank, a traditional working farm overlooking the Wasdale fells, including Scafell Pike and Great Gable. Guests can choose between two Shepherds Huts and two Bow Top Romany Retreats. We also offer camping and a self catering cottage.

Making memories under the stars by the flicker of a campfire is all part of the glamping experience at Thornbank Farm in the Western Lake District. Here you can enjoy the majestic magnificence of England’s highest mountain and take in spectacular sunsets where the sea meets the fells. Each unit sleeps up to four, with space for two adults and two small children. The shepherds huts allow one small to medium-sized dog.

The Sheep Fold is a modern take on a traditional Shepherd’s Hut, featuring underfloor heating and sheltered outdoor seating with a table for alfresco dining. Inside there is a comfortable double sofa bed and a small kitchen area with a mini oven, toaster, kettle, sandwich maker, slow cooker and mini fridge. A fold-out table with chairs and bedside drawers complete the furnishings. Wildlife guides and binoculars are also provided to help you spot and identify the animals around the farm. One small to medium-sized dog can be pre-booked to stay here.

Owl Hoot takes its name from the barn owls that glide over the fields at dusk. This heated pod includes a double sofa bed, a fold-up table with chairs and a kitchen area equipped with a kettle, toaster, sandwich maker, slow cooker and mini fridge. A shelving unit stores crockery, utensils and games for evening entertainment. Outside, a table and chairs on the sheltered decking provide magnificent views of Scafell and the surrounding fells. One small to medium-sized dog can be pre-booked to stay here as well.

Our Romany Retreat consists of two Bowtop Caravans, each with a Romany name. These can be booked separately or together and both have private seating areas with wonderful views of the Wasdale and Eskdale fells. This is the only area where campfires are permitted, with a tripod and utensils provided for traditional outdoor cooking. Each Bowtop has electricity, lighting, a heater, kettle, toaster and a mini fridge. Bedding and towels for the double bed are supplied, with an additional small cupboard bed underneath for two small children, though bedding for this is not provided. Extra storage is available outside in a watertight trunk and guests also have access to a shared fridge and freezer in the drying room. Each Vardo comes with a bag of wood, kindling and paper, with additional supplies available for purchase on site.

Kezia is the most decorative of the Bowtops and is slightly wider, making it a good choice for taller guests. Rosella, decorated with fluffy cow print fabric on the ceiling, also features a small pull-out table inside. Please note that due to size restrictions, dogs are not permitted in the Bowtops, although outdoor runs may be available in the future.

The location offers easy access to some of the best sights in the region. England’s highest peak, Scafell Pike, is just six miles away in Wasdale Valley, while Seascale Beach offers miles of open sand at low tide, perfect for dog walking. Golfers can enjoy the nearby links course with views over to Scotland and the Isle of Man on a clear day. Ravenglass, six miles away, is home to the dog-friendly Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, while Muncaster Castle, just over six miles away, offers more than 70 acres of woodland gardens to explore. The beach is four miles away, with a shop, pub and restaurant within three-quarters of a mile.
