Thornthwaite Farm offers fantastic self catering on a working farm near Broughton-in-Furness, nestled in the gorgeous landscape of the woodland valley. Our Cumbrian holiday homes are the perfect base for walking, cycling or visiting a range of famous attractions in the area.

We have a range of holiday accommodation to choose from, including cottages that sleep between 2 – 6 people and two hand-crafted cabins. The cottages are all 4-star Gold rated and boast stunning views over the Lake District fells, whilst the cabins enjoy views across the ancient woodland and valley.

Stable Cottage:

This property sleeps up to 2 people and comes with an open plan lounge/dining/kitchen area. There is a double bedroom with an en suite bathroom, plus a balcony that enjoys beautiful views over the lawned garden. Outside is a large garden with garden furniture, great for al fresco dining in the sun.

Blacksmith Cottage:

Our cottage sleeps up to 4 people and comes with an open plan lounge/kitchen/dining area. Two bedrooms are available: one double and one twin room. Both rooms share a luxurious bathroom which is fully tiled. Outside there is a large garden which is shared with the other cottages and includes garden furniture and a BBQ.

Woodmans Cottage:

Our largest cottage sleeps up to 6 people in 3 bedrooms: a double and two twin rooms. The double room comes with a sleigh bed. There are two well-appointed bathrooms. A lovely open lounge/kitchen/dining area will suit all your needs. A feature of the lounge is the Egyptian crystal chandelier and the magnificent views through the huge window looking across to the Lake District fells. Outside is a large garden with garden furniture and a BBQ.

Larch Log Cabin:

Our hand-built cabin boasts views of the woodland fell. The cabin sleeps up to 2 people and comes with an open plan lounge/kitchen area. There is one double bedroom and a modern bathroom. Outside is a garden area with furniture and a BBQ.

The Cosy Glamping Cabin:

This quirky cabin sleeps 2 in a cosy double bed which is accessed through a delightful hobbit hole. The bathroom can be accessed from the outside veranda. A delightful open plan lounge/kitchen/dining comes with a small fridge, two-ring electric hob, pan, cutlery, crockery and bench seat. A log-burning fire with an integrated oven will keep you toasty in the winter months.

Our farm provides a diverse landscape to explore, including rocky outcrops, streams, lowland flower meadows, ancient woods and rivers. We have lots of wildlife and there is 150 acres of woodland to discover.

We are within easy distance of Coniston (6 miles) and the Duddon Valley (5 miles), making it a perfect stop-off point while completing the Cumbrian Way. Take a trip on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway or visit the Lakes Aquarium. Attractions to visit include:
