Hatters Cottage Hawkshead Hill, Ambleside, Cumbria
Hatter's Cottage is an 18th century detached stone cottage in a secluded location near the centre of the southern Lake District. It is situated 150 metres from public roads, on a small farm near a hilltop between Coniston and Windermere lakes. It is the only rented property on the farm.
The sitting room has two settees, an easy chair, a television and DVD player. The original fireplace with 'crane' for a kettle is a prominent feature. The alcove to the right of the fireplace was once used in hat making. Next door is the kitchen – dining room with full-size gas cooker, microwave, dishwasher & washing machine, and antique dining furniture.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one with a 5-foot double bed and one with twin beds; and a shower room with WC and washbasin.
The sitting room and kitchen look out onto the cottage's private garden and windows at the back overlook gardens, fields and woodland threaded by a stream. The bedrooms have views across tree-studded farmland to the central Lake District mountains.
The picturesque medieval village of Hawkshead where Beatrix Potter shopped and William Wordsworth went to school is 1 mile away. It has a small supermarket, post office, pharmacy and several pubs serving meals.
Children over 11 are welcome.
