Faraway Follies
Details
Set within the grounds of a Victorian hunting lodge that has been a much-loved home for over forty years, this peaceful retreat began welcoming guests in 2016 with the opening of Owl Lodge. The response was so positive that further unique accommodation soon followed, including the imaginative conversion of a former kennel building into The Doghouse in 2018, along with the addition of a Treehouse and traditional gypsy caravans at Copse Camp. Together, these distinctive stays form what is now known as Faraway Follies, a collection of characterful escapes in a truly special setting.
Owl Lodge - Sleeps 4
Owl Lodge is a characterful holiday retreat created from a former garage and game larder at the entrance to a 19th-century shooting lodge, set on the edge of a North Wales grouse moor. Originally transformed into a healing room and artist’s studio around 15 years ago, it now offers peaceful accommodation ideal for rest and restoration. Located close to Llandegla Mountain Bike Centre and the iconic Horseshoe Pass, it provides a perfect escape from everyday life, where you can soak in the hot tub while enjoying sweeping valley views, listen to owls after dark and watch small birds flitting through the surrounding trees. The lodge is all on one level and includes a double bedroom with a comfortable mattress and Egyptian cotton bed linen, as well as a sofa bed in the sitting room that converts into a king-size bed, with matching Egyptian cotton bedding stored in a cubby beneath the right-hand side of the sofa.
The Doghouse - Sleeps 2
The Dog House is a charming retreat created from the former kennel building of a 19th-century shooting lodge, ideally located near Llandegla Mountain Bike Centre and the renowned Horseshoe Pass, making it a perfect escape to unwind and recharge. Surrounded by nature, the property is filled with the soothing sounds of a nearby stream and birdsong, best enjoyed from the hot tub or with the windows open to the fresh countryside air. Inside, there is a comfortable double bed dressed in Egyptian cotton sheets, positioned to take in views of the valley and flowing water, along with a wood-burning stove that creates a warm and cosy atmosphere. The compact kitchen is well equipped with a gas hob, microwave, mini oven, toaster and kettle, while outside, a veranda with comfortable wicker chairs overlooking the stream provides a peaceful spot to relax and watch the sunset.
Copse Camp - Sleeps 6
Covered in playful Beano comic wallpaper, this quirky off-grid retreat offers a cosy escape surrounded by nature, heated by a crackling wood-burning stove. Mornings begin in the snug loft sleeping space before heading across the rope bridge to prepare breakfast over a fire pit or in a Dutch oven, with the option of using the gas hob in the kitchen for convenience. Additional sleeping space is provided by two traditional gypsy caravans, while a deck beneath the treehouse creates a sheltered outdoor dining area. With more than 300 acres of land to explore and a private wood-fired hot tub perfectly positioned for sunset views, it’s a memorable back-to-nature stay with plenty of character.
