Westhills Courtyard is situated on an equine farm between the historic limestone villages of Winster and Elton in the heart of the Peak District National Park. The former stable block now houses two luxury retreats for couples, each offering far-reaching views and a wood-burning stove for cosy evenings, Courtyard Cottage also has a cedar Japanese whirlpool bath for starlit soaks after a day on the hills. Horses graze in neighbouring paddocks by day, leaving the courtyard blissfully quiet at night and ample parking sits right outside the door for effortless arrivals.

Courtyard Cottage

Courtyard Cottage occupies the ground floor and is arranged on one easy-access level. Light pours through triple-aspect windows onto oak floors and exposed beams, while an open-plan living space pairs a squashy sofa with a 55-inch smart TV on a swivel arm so you can watch from the sofa or the dining table. The contemporary kitchen has everything from a dishwasher to a cafetière and stays of two nights or more begin with a generous welcome hamper of local bacon, eggs, bread, milk and breakfast staples. A king-size bedroom leads to a spacious en-suite with double basins and a Bluetooth mirror and outside a private garden holds patio furniture, a firepit and that sublime cedar whirlpool bath. Central heating and the log burner keep things toasty year-round, kindling and logs are supplied and the owners will consider one well-behaved, neutered dog by prior arrangement. With no fixed changeover day and a minimum stay of just one night, the cottage offers welcome flexibility.

Courtyard Loft

Reached by thirteen stone steps, Courtyard Loft is a bright first-floor hideaway beneath vaulted beams. The airy open-plan living area features a snug sofa, two easy chairs and a smart TV, while the fully fitted kitchen comes stocked with essentials and a breakfast hamper that includes fresh bacon, eggs and crusty bread. The king-size bedroom enjoys views across the valley and an en-suite shower room with fluffy Egyptian-cotton towels and complimentary toiletries. Just outside Courtyard Loft a railed balcony looks out across the valley, giving you an elevated panorama of the surrounding countryside. A small table and two chairs invite leisurely al fresco meals or the simple pleasure of sipping a glass of wine while the sun sinks behind the rolling Peak District hills. The owners will consider one well-behaved, neutered dog by prior arrangement.

From the doorstep you can stride straight onto the Limestone Way, wander to Winster’s village shop and characterful pubs in under a mile, or drive to Stanton Moor’s stone circles, Rowtor Rocks and the market towns of Bakewell, Matlock and Wirksworth, all within easy reach. Ashbourne, Cromford and pretty villages such as Hartington and Tissington make rewarding day trips and there are endless walking and cycling routes through rolling dales and dramatic gritstone edges.
