The Stables
Details
The Stables is a thoughtfully restored cottage where private patios provide a peaceful place to unwind in Adirondack chairs while admiring the stunning landscapes of the Peak District. Step inside and you’ll find lofty ceilings supported by a handcrafted oak truss, windows finished with stone sills and bespoke wooden shutters that add warmth and charm. With its exposed beams and carefully considered details, the cottage blends rustic character with an elegant, high-quality finish that feels both authentic and indulgent.
Designed for two guests, The Stables at Rocking Stones offers a tranquil retreat. The bedroom is designed for rest and comfort, with a memory foam mattress, soft feather and down bedding and crisp 600-thread-count cotton sheets. Overhead roof lights bring the night sky into view, allowing you to stargaze from the warmth of the bed thanks to the area’s clear skies and low light pollution. The cottage is arranged across a single level, giving it a welcoming, easy flow, with a lounge made cosy by a wood-burning stove in winter and the added comfort of underfloor heating throughout the year.
The kitchen is a stylish and functional space beneath its lofty wooden beams, equipped with everything needed for a self-catered stay. A fridge, induction cooker, oven, toaster, kettle, cafetière, dishes, silverware and cooking basics are all provided, along with an oak dining table that makes an inviting spot for meals. For those who prefer to dine outdoors, the terraced area offers a private space for alfresco suppers. Wi-Fi is available throughout, along with a TV, cable and satellite channels, books and reading materials, giving guests the choice between quiet relaxation or entertainment. The bathroom is designed for indulgence, with a walk-in rain shower, fluffy towels, robes and complimentary toiletries including shampoo and shower gel, as well as a hair dryer for convenience.
Beyond the cottage, the surrounding area is filled with opportunities for exploration and adventure. Scenic walking and cycling routes wind through the countryside, while activities such as rock climbing, caving, gorge walking, and abseiling await those seeking more adrenaline-fuelled experiences. Visitors will also find a wealth of local attractions to enjoy, including the Heights of Abraham, the Peak District Mining Museum, Cromford Mills, Matlock Bath Aquarium and arcade and the tranquil Derwent Gardens.
