Avoncourt Lodge

Ilfracombe, Devon

Details

Avoncourt Lodge in Ilfracombe is an ideal place to stay for walkers and cyclists who are exploring Devon. This part of Devon is truly idyllic and the views are wonderful. The Torrs Walk runs past our front door and up to the cliff, where there are beautiful sea views.

Our guest house is comfortably furnished and has 10 rooms, 3 of which have their own small balcony. The views are over Ilfracombe from the front and to the rocky cliff garden in the back. All the rooms have en suite facilities, 7 with full length tubs and overhead showers and 3 with a shower only. The rooms are large and airy, making them the perfect place to relax in after a busy day exploring. Rooms come with a TV, tea and coffee facilities and shower amenities as standard, while beach towels and dog towels are available in the drying room.

Most of our rooms are on the first floor, making it easy access for all and very suitable for groups staying together. Our ground floor room is frequently preferred by dog owners as it is directly opposite the front door and very easy for dogs to come and go. Also, the stairs have open treads which some dogs don’t appreciate.

Guests can enjoy our cosy lounge on the ground floor, which includes a large TV, armchairs and an excellent array of books. We also have a delightful honesty bar which is fully stocked and furnished and includes a dartboard and various board games.

Our breakfasts are the perfect start to the day and include a fully cooked breakfast with locally sourced produce.

Avoncourt Lodge is on the west side of Ilfracombe, above the Tunnels Beaches and the Landmark Theatre. The picturesque and authentic fishing port of Ilfracombe is a stunning 10 minute walk down the hill. Many visitors to Ilfracombe use it as a base for exploring the northern end of the South West Coastal Pathway. With well established trails from Lynton to Woolacombe, Ilfracombe is the perfect place from which to make trips both east and west along the stunning coastline.

The Torrs Walk runs from Avoncourt Lodge to Lee (3 miles) and Woolacombe (9 miles) along the cliffs throughout, with outstanding views and challenging walking. The cycle tracks are equally interesting and varied, with a network of trails running through Mortehoe and Woolacombe, Martinhoe and Patchoe and out to Barnstaple, Braunton and Barton Fleming. The Sustrans circuit and Tarka trails are both incorporated in local routes. For both the amateur and the serious cyclist, there are a wide variety of terrains and routes to suit every ability and distance.
