The Shippen is a spacious and beautifully converted 19th Century barn offering self catering accommodation in Littabourne. Our cottage near Barnstaple in Devon is perfect for a relaxing break away.

The self catering accommodation is in quiet surroundings, with views of the River Taw. We are 15 minutes’ walk from the town centre and just a few minutes stroll from Pilton Street.

The master bedroom has a double bed and wash hand basin, as does the smaller single room which has two single beds (adult size but suitable for children).

At ground level the shower and separate toilet adjoin the good sized kitchen/diner which is well equipped (electric hob and gas oven, microwave, dish and clothes’ washing machines, kettle, toaster and usual kitchen equipment). The building is furnished traditionally with older wooden furniture and some pictures. It has character and charm but it is not suitable for anyone with mobility problems.

There is off-road parking in the yard at the front door to the building and help and advice if required from the owners who are on hand.

The principal town of North Devon with its Victorian Pannier market (Tuesdays and Fridays) reflecting its glorious past when the railway brought many visitors to holiday here, Barnstaple still has much to offer. The new bridge has removed much traffic from the town and you can wander down the Strand, see Queen Anne’s walk and the Old Custom house (now a restaurant) and the re-designed ‘Square’ with its clock tower and museum and Tourist Information Centre.

The Leisure and Tarka centres across the river have facilities for swimming and tennis. The High Street and Green Lanes cater for all tastes, as do the cafes and restaurants in the town.
