The Robin Hill Hotel

Torquay, Devon, The English Riviera

Details

The Robin Hill Hotel places you in the heart of Torquay, less than five hundred metres from the seafront, harbour, restaurants and pubs, yet its grounds feel a world apart. Within this tranquil setting you might linger over a Chinese tea ceremony on the terrace, sip coffee under Victorian-era glass, or wander Robin’s Garden with a four-legged companion after a day spent exploring the English Riviera.

Each bedroom enjoys a different aspect of the three-dimensional garden, so no two views are the same and the rooms themselves, whether double, twin or family, take their names from evocative words that echo the hotel’s artistic spirit. Expect blackout curtains for an unbroken night’s sleep, Freeview television, luxury bath amenities, complimentary tea or coffee, high-speed Wi-Fi and the option of an ironing board on request, all wrapped into a stay that always includes an exceptional breakfast.

Morning begins with the scent of freshly brewed coffee mingling with a salty coastal breeze and we offer a seasonal menu rooted in Devon produce sourced from nearby farms and fisheries. The light-filled restaurant retains its nineteenth-century charm while each plate balances tradition and modern flair and guests can pair their meal with fresh juice before heading out to Torquay’s sun-washed beaches or cobbled lanes. Breakfast service runs daily from 8:30 to 9:30 and afternoons invite a tiered spread of finger sandwiches, homemade scones piled with clotted cream and jam and fragrant seasonal tea enjoyed either in the garden or beneath the glass roof of the sunroom. (Afternoon tea and dinner need to be booked 3 days in advance, check the menu for prices.) Dinner is also on offer; Executive Chef Vincent Farley, whose career spans distinguished posts in Britain and Australia, brings a refined touch to British and European flavours, rounding out a culinary experience that mirrors the hotel’s blend of heritage, creativity and warm hospitality. (Afternoon teas & dinner are by prior arrangement.)
