Farwood Barton Holiday Cottages offer self catering accommodation situated just outside of Colyton in Devon. Our three barn conversions are located in an old Victorian courtyard and are an excellent base for those wishing to explore the area.
The Wheel House
This spacious, thoughtfully converted one-level cottage, The Wheel House, offers stunning views of open farmland from every room and sleeps up to 8 people plus a cot. The open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge area is well-equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, dishwasher and washer/dryer. The cosy lounge features a log burner for autumn and winter nights, with leather sofas for up to 9, a 42” Smart TV, a DVD player and a selection of DVDs, books, and games. The cottage has geothermal underfloor heating throughout and three bedrooms: a king-size double with a sofa, fitted wardrobe and en-suite shower room, a second double with an en-suite shower and a twin room next to a family bathroom. A comfortable double sofa bed in a curtained wing of the lounge provides extra sleeping space. The Wheel House also has a private garden area with a few steps leading to a patio equipped with a fire bowl/barbecue and garden furniture. Ample parking is available and the dining table seats 8. For larger gatherings, when rented with the adjoining cottage, the dining table can be replaced with a banquet table to seat up to 14 people.
The Leat House
Set in a Victorian courtyard with panoramic views over the rolling Devon countryside, The Leat House combines original beams, vaulted ceilings, and brick features with contemporary styling. This spacious cottage sleeps up to 4 + 1 plus a cot and features an open-plan, well-equipped kitchen, dining and lounge area with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, toaster, dishwasher and washer/dryer. The cosy lounge, with seating for up to 7, includes a log burner for autumn and winter nights, a 42” Smart TV, DVD player and a selection of DVDs, books and games. Geothermal underfloor heating runs throughout the house. There are two en-suite bedrooms: the first has a super king bed (convertible to a twin) and a sofa bed, with an en-suite family bathroom featuring a shower over the bath; the second has a luxurious king-size bed and an en-suite shower room.
The Apple Loft
The Apple Loft, once the farm's old apple loft and cellar where apples were milled and pressed for cider, has been transformed into a contemporary home full of character, featuring vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, brickwork, flint walls and the original apple mill drive shaft. Designed as an upside-down house to maximise the stunning panoramic views of the Coly Valley, it includes a king-size bedroom and bathroom, with a comfortable sofa bed in the lounge, allowing it to sleep up to 4 people plus a cot. The open-plan kitchen, dining, and lounge area offers a cosy wood burner, a 32” Smart TV with DVD player and a selection of books, DVDs and games. The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, electric oven and hob, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave, toaster, kettle and wine rack, along with a washer/dryer. All rooms benefit from geothermal underfloor heating for added comfort.
Onsite Facilities
Onsite, we have a small fishing lake where you can relax by the water and try your hand at catching some carp. For those with a competitive streak, there's also a tennis court, perfect for aspiring Wimbledon stars. And for youngsters (or the young at heart) with energy to burn, or if the weather turns wet, our Games Barn offers a wide range of entertainment, including table football, table tennis, snooker, billiards, a skittle alley and even a small gym.
Visiting the Area
Farwood Barton Holiday Cottages are perfectly situated between the coast and countryside, just three miles from the charming town of Colyton, known for its quiet winding streets and the tramway that travels to Seaton along the bird-rich Axe Marshes. A short 10-minute drive into the Blackdown Hills brings you to Honiton, famous for its lace making and lively markets on Tuesdays and Saturdays. To the south, you'll find the fossil-rich Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Branscombe features steep valleys and a long beach, while Beer offers a sheltered harbour, fishing trips from the beach, and the fascinating Beer Quarry Caves, spanning an area equivalent to 50 football pitches. Further west lies the regency town of Sidmouth with its grand sea front, striking red cliffs, safe beaches and the picturesque Connaught Gardens. Continuing along the coast, you'll discover Budleigh Salterton and Exmouth, home to the longest sandy beach in the area. To the east, Lyme Regis boasts the iconic Cobb Harbour and nearby Charmouth is renowned for its fossil beach.
