Details

Brook Cottage is a large and comfortable family house in a wonderful location with fabulous views. It is set on a quiet back lane in the hamlet of Fifehead St Quintin.

Situated in the lovely countryside of the Blackmore Vale, north west of Okeford Hill and Bulbarrow, the house has a large garden of 0.9 acres, with outdoor covered dining area (enclosed in winter) and a long terrace with outdoor seating and a firepit. There is a children's play area with play house and swings, and a ping pong table in the gardens, plus a kitchen garden behind the house with a vine and orchard trees. A garden gate leads onto a footpath across the field to the next village Fifehead Neville. Set in the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the village is surrounded by lovely countryside for walking, cycling and riding. In not much more than 45 minutes you can be on the beach at Studland or Lulworth or walking along the world-famous Jurassic Coast. Through its gate the house has a large gravel parking area with space for 3-4 cars.

The house began as a cottage in the early 1800s, and has been substantially extended, with a major extension and full refurbishment done in 2017 so that it now extends over 2600sqft. It has 4 double bedrooms all with their own ensuite shower room/bathroom, with a 5th bedroom adjoining the master bedroom which can be used as both as a dressing room and possible bedroom, for example for younger children who want to sleep near their parents , since it has a pull out sofabed). Two of the bedrooms have superkingsize beds, one is kingsize and one is a double. All linen and towels are provided.

From the attractive entrance hall, there are two large living rooms. The main living room has 3 large sofas to seat 9/10 people, and an open fire, and a smart TV. The long study living room has 2 large sofas and armchairs and an inglenook fireplace. There is also a woodburner in the main hallway, and timber can be supplied for your stay at cost. The study living room also has 2 desk spaces: the house has good fast broadband to keep you fully in touch with work if you wish. In 2017 as part of the extension and refurbishment the house was fitted with Nobo electric heating throughout, which is easy to manage, with all wall heaters coming on at the touch of a button, and this combined with using the two wood burners and the open fire in the evenings if you wish will give you the assurance of that real comfort you need on your holiday.

To the right of the entrance hall there is a cloakroom/toilet, and along the hallway a large utility room, with washing machine and dryer and plenty of space to put your coats and boots. The house has a 27ft by 16ft kitchen and dining room, and the kitchen is well-equipped with a range of excellent appliances: it has a vintage AGA converted to be purely electric, and in addition a fan oven with electric hob, a fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, electric kettle & toaster. With granite work tops and bar stools for relaxing, the kitchen also has a large dark oak dresser, and a dining area that can seat 10 people and more, looking onto the garden. With a beautiful outdoor dining area beyond. The outdoor area is charmingly lit and has overhead electric heaters. Next to the kitchen is a long walk in larder, and the kitchen is well supplied with crockery, and cooking equipment.

There are local pubs at Ibberton and Fifehead Neville, village shop and post office in Okeford Fitzpaine and Hazelbury Bryan, and nearby Sturminster Newton has a Co-op grocery store and Harts of Stur (a renowned kitchen, hardware and garden store). The historic Georgian town of Blandford Forum is only a 20 minute drive away with its busy market square, M&S Food Hall (Ocado), Tesco, Lidl and Homebase superstores and, 20 minutes in the other direction the attractive Abbey town of Sherborne is perfectly located on the West Country mainline; the station has regular fast trains to London, Waterloo (about 2 hrs), and there is a Waitrose as well.

There are beautiful places to visit in every direction, with Milton Abbas, Cerne Abbas and Corfe Castle and the Jurassic coast to the south, as well as the historic towns of Blandford Forum and Dorchester, and the old hilltop town of Shaftesbury and the abbey town of Sherborne to the north and west. For those keen on walking, there is the North Dorset trailway nearby through Shillingstone, as well as Hambledon and Hod Hills, with superb views over the Blackmore Vale.
