Lyme Regis, Dorset
Sleeps: 1 to 8

Details

Lyme Regis is an ideal destination for a family holiday and Appletrees is perfectly equipped with families in mind. Lyme Regis itself is special for many reasons. Its stunning location, situated between the cliffs and the sea, overlooks one of the most beautiful bays on the British coast. The town’s charming, historic layout has remained largely unchanged for centuries.

The cottage, part of a Georgian terrace overlooking the picturesque St. George's Square garden, offers excellent accommodation for one or more families. From the small entrance lobby, you step into a spacious, light-filled living room that combines kitchen, dining and lounge areas, designed to be both practical and comfortable.

Upstairs, there are three bedrooms: a master bedroom with a double bed and wall-mounted digital TV with Freeview, a twin bedroom and a single bedroom. The modern bathroom features a bath and a separate shower cubicle with a power shower. Opposite the bathroom, a door leads across the garden to the Boathouse annex, providing additional privacy and space. The fully enclosed garden, safe for small children and pets, includes a garden table, chairs, an arbour and a barbecue area, perfect for enjoying long summer evenings. A gate at the top of steep steps leads to the kitchen back door and downstairs loo.

The 'Boathouse' annex, a few steps from the main cottage, offers extra accommodation with two bedrooms: one with a king-size bed (convertible into a twin) and a single bedroom. The annex also includes a laundry room with a washing machine, tumble dryer and a shower room with a power shower, making it an ideal retreat for grandparents seeking peace and quiet.

The town boasts a wonderful variety of beaches, from smooth sand to shingle and fascinating shale slabs with rock pools. The shallow, sheltered sea is perfect for swimming, sailing, fishing and diving, while windsurfing enthusiasts can enjoy the occasional breakers. The long seafront is lined with quirky cottages, cliffside gardens, a mini-golf course and a quaint harbour protected by the Cobb, where visitors can explore 17th-century buildings and an interesting aquarium. Lyme Regis is also famous for its fossils, earning World Heritage status as one of the most important lower Jurassic sites in the world. The bay is renowned for its abundance of ancient molluscs and reptile remains, along with its unique landslips, mudflows and wooded cliffs. For walkers, the area offers endless delights. Long beach walks and the scenic undercliff walk between Lyme and Axmouth, much of it through beautiful woodland, are part of a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, making it a haven for nature lovers.
