Sleeps: 1 to 4

Details

Surrounded by National Trust farmland in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Short House sits within a private estate with 200 metres of frontage onto Chesil Beach. Accessed through a picturesque drive lined with swaying pampas grass and umbrella pines, this recently restored Purbeck stone barn offers a tranquil retreat. A short stroll across an unspoiled meadow, where horses graze peacefully, leads you to the iconic Chesil Beach.

The cottage boasts a spacious, fully equipped kitchen featuring a fridge/freezer, fan oven/grill, hob, extractor, double sink and dishwasher, along with plenty of cookware, cutlery and essentials like olive oil, salt, tea and coffee. The kitchen table comfortably seats six but can extend to seat eight. Adjacent to the kitchen, the high-ceilinged dining and sitting room features oak floors, bright kilims, purple doors and dimmable lighting, creating a cosy atmosphere. Bold canvases, board games, books and a 43" Sony Bravia UHD TV with Sky Q, Netflix, Amazon Prime and a DVD player add to the entertainment options. A Bose Dock sound system and Hive-controlled central heating enhance comfort throughout.

The two double bedrooms offer stunning ocean views and luxurious king-size beds with fine Egyptian cotton linens, feather and down pillows and high-tog duvets. The second bedroom can be configured as a twin room upon request. Additional sleeping options include two inflatable John Lewis beds and a travel cot, available on request. The travertine-tiled bathrooms feature large tubs, one with an overhead shower and the other offering a sea view from the bath. Fluffy towels, beach towels and amenities like buckets and spades are provided.

Outdoors, the terrace features an 8-seater dining table, a barbecue with utensils, reclining chairs, loungers and beach chairs, all surrounded by a secure box hedge, making it toddler-friendly. The estate's low ambient light offers exceptional stargazing, with sunsets over the Devon coastline and Golden Cap providing breathtaking views. Ample parking is available right outside the cottage.

Guests can enjoy direct access to scenic walks along the beach and inland trails. Wear’s Hill, celebrated as having England’s best natural view by Country Life Magazine, is a 45-minute walk away. The property includes a private tennis court with provided rackets and balls, while nearby riding stables offer lessons. Chesil Beach is renowned for fishing and birdwatching, making Short House a perfect blend of comfort, nature and outdoor adventure.
