Applegarth Cottages
Details
Byre and Stable are two luxury one-bedroom cottages, converted in 2024 from the original byre and stable buildings at Applegarth House, which was formerly the Manse for Applegarth Church. The cottages retain their original exterior stonework, while the interiors feature high vaulted ceilings with white tongue-and-groove panelling, creating a spacious yet rustic feel. Finished and decorated to an exceptional standard, both cottages offer a warm and cosy atmosphere with underfloor heating throughout. Sustainability was a key focus during the conversion. Heating is provided by an air source heat pump and electricity comes from solar panels.
Byre and Stable are nearly identical in layout, with Byre offering slightly more space and a built-in wardrobe, while Stable has a hanging rail. Both include a chest of drawers for storage. A step leads to a private paved terrace on the west side of each cottage and while a ramp can be provided, both cottages are designed to be easily accessible for guests with limited mobility. The entrance leads directly into the living area and access to the wet room is level and convenient.
Each cottage has an open-plan living room and kitchen, with natural light flooding in through the large glass-panelled front doors and Velux skylights, all fitted with remote-controlled blinds. The living rooms feature an extremely comfortable three-seater sofa that converts to a bed for children, a cushioned cane chair, an extendable dining table for four and a 48-inch smart TV with a soundbar. A Bluetooth speaker is also provided for added convenience. Subtle wall lighting and ceiling spotlights create a warm, inviting atmosphere in the evenings and walls are adorned with artworks from local artists.
The kitchens are fully equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay, including a fridge freezer, split oven with microwave and ceramic hob, slimline dishwasher, condenser washer/dryer and a Nespresso capsule coffee machine with milk frother. Additional drying facilities, including a large dryer and line, are available in the garage. Off the living room, a small vestibule leads to a stylish wet room with a striking river stone floor, powerful rain shower, toilet, basin and fluffy white towels on a heated rail. Adjacent to the wet room is a double bedroom with a luxurious king-size bed dressed in crisp Egyptian cotton sheets.
Byre and Stable are both dog-friendly by arrangement, though dogs are not permitted on the furniture. A £30 cleaning fee applies, along with a £10 charge per dog (maximum of two dogs).
Parking is available directly in front of the cottages, each with its own 7.4 kW EV charger. For cycling enthusiasts, there is a lockable bike storage shed and bicycles available for hire. Guests can also enjoy access to a games room featuring table tennis and a pool table, offering entertainment for all ages.
