Aird Donald Caravan Park
Details
Aird Donald Caravan Park is located in Stranraer, in the warm and scenic South West of Scotland. Surrounded by beautiful landscapes and steeped in Scottish history, the park provides easy access to locations across Scotland, Northern Ireland and North West England. Its convenient location makes it an ideal base for exploring the region or as a stopover for those travelling further afield.
The park offers a range of electric hook-up points for caravans and motorhomes, available across both grass and hard-standing areas. Please note that electric hook-ups are not available for tents. Grass pitches are subject to weather conditions and are generally available from May to the end of September. During wetter periods or the winter months, only hard or gravel pitches are used. Twin axle caravans are not permitted on grass pitches at any time. The camping area for tents is a large, flat space surrounded by trees, offering shelter from the wind and a warm atmosphere when the sun shines. This area is typically open from the end of April through to the end of September, weather permitting. For motorhomes, the maximum permitted length is 8 metres, excluding towed accessories or rear carry boxes/bike racks. The maximum weight allowed is 5 tonnes. Larger vehicles are not permitted due to the size of bays and the layout of the site roads.
For those looking for a camping experience without the hassle of pitching a tent, Aird Donald offers comfortable and convenient camping barrels. The standard camping barrels can accommodate up to two adults on a double bed and two children on bench seating that converts into small single beds (suitable for children up to 1.3m/4ft tall). The large camping barrel sleeps up to five adults, three in the main sleeping area and two on the front bench beds, which can accommodate individuals up to 6ft/1.82m tall. Each barrel includes a small fold-up table and picnic benches are provided outside near a water feature, offering a relaxing spot to enjoy the tranquil surroundings. Guests need to bring their own bedding and a sleeping mat or air bed if they prefer a softer surface. The barrels are lit with solar lighting and feature a small solar power station with USB sockets for charging devices, although no mains electricity is available. Guests staying in the barrels have full access to all camping facilities, including the pot washing area, toilets and the on-site shower block.
The recently renovated toilet and shower facilities are open all year round for all guests. These facilities include numerous sinks with hot and cold running water and electric showers that operate on £1 coins (new coins only), offering 8 minutes of hot or cold water per use. A small laundry facility is available on site, typically open from April to October and accessible on request during these months.
Local services such as supermarkets, a railway station, marina, leisure facilities and the town centre are all just one mile from the site. For those looking to explore the outdoors, the surrounding area offers a wide range of activities including horse riding, fishing, clay pigeon shooting, paintballing and more.
