The Doocot @East Neuk Orchards
Details
Come and discover East Neuk Orchards, situated in the enchanting East Neuk of Fife. Located within our family home at Gillingshill, The Doocot offers a perfect rural retreat or romantic getaway for two. It is just ten minutes from the fishing village of Pittenweem, the Fife Coastal Path and the pristine beaches of Elie, Kingsbarns and St Andrews. Perched on the slope of Kellie Law, the Doocot boasts a spectacular view of the Firth of Forth and East Lothian beyond.
This unique property is crafted from an historic and unusual three-storey doocot (dovecot). Formerly an old tractor shed, it has been thoughtfully transformed into a contemporary two-storey "home from home" with minimal intervention, retaining its character while offering modern comfort. The Doocot is an upside-down house, designed with the kitchen, dining and living area on the upper floor to maximise the sea view.
On the ground floor, two steps lead up to the entrance and underfloor heating ensures warmth and comfort throughout. The bedroom features French doors that open to the outdoors and is furnished with an extra-long, zip-and-link super king-size bed, which can be converted into two single beds upon request. The adjoining en-suite shower room is designed as a wet room and includes a toilet.
The first floor is a light-filled, open-plan living space with a wooden floor. The living area is equipped with a 32” Freeview Smart TV, while the dining and kitchen area offer a welcoming space for meals and relaxation. The kitchen is fitted with an electric oven and hob, a fridge/freezer and a dishwasher. Remote-controlled Velux windows complete the space, adding to its airy and contemporary feel.
The Doocot is a beautiful property, perfectly blending history and modernity for a truly memorable escape for two.
This property can also be combined with another of our properties, The Barracks. They share a courtyard, although it is seldom used by the Barracks guests because they have a garden on the other side of the building. This means the Doocot can provide an ideal, adjacent 'retreat' for larger family gatherings with Doocot guests seamlessly joining activities in The Barracks whilst also able to enjoy a peaceful escape whenever they wish.
The East Neuk of Fife captivates visitors with its timeless charm, drawing them back year after year. Known for its unique character and distinctive microclimate, this region boasts a delightful blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. Visitors can explore a variety of attractions, including the fascinating Scottish Fisheries Museum, the Fife Coastal villages, the historic Kellie Castle, the mysterious St. Fillan's Cave and the V & A Museum in Dundee. The East Neuk and St Andrews have become a foodies destination with well regarded farm shops and dining experiences ranging from fun pub food to six local restaurants named in The Michelin Guide 2024.
