Sleeps: 1 to 4

Details

If you're seeking a unique and stylish holiday home in Gloucestershire, Nuthatch Retreat offers a self-catering experience of laidback luxury. Situated on a hillside in the Forest of Dean, this eco-friendly retreat invites you to unwind in warm, calming interiors while soaking in expansive views that inspire fresh perspectives. It’s a perfect escape from the bustle of daily life.

The property is a single-storey, step-free haven featuring an open-plan living, kitchen and dining area, a spacious wet room and a generous master bedroom. Outside, the terraced garden unfolds across three levels, with a patio, a deep soak tub for two and a fire pit area. While the terracing makes it unsuitable for unsupervised young children, families are welcome to discuss their needs in advance. For an additional supplement, a second twin bedroom/playroom is available, exclusively for family members and not larger groups of adults.

The layout is fully wheelchair accessible, featuring a ramped front door entrance, wide doorways, a spacious wet room and seamless access to the generous patio area. Please ask for exact details.

Guests are welcomed with a generous hamper of local delights, including Netherend butter, Chase farm milk, eggs, rustic sourdough, Kontext Coffee and a complementary drink tailored to dietary requirements. The first load of firewood is provided for the outdoor fire pit, with additional supplies available nearby.

Nuthatch Retreat is designed with sustainability and comfort in mind. Triple-glazed and highly insulated, it’s cosy in winter and cool in summer, with hot water and underfloor heating powered by an air-source heat pump. Electricity is sourced from 100% renewable energy, while energy-efficient appliances, a Cotswolds-designed EV charger, sustainable bedding and Neal’s Yard Remedies toiletries further reflect eco-conscious efforts.

The terraced garden is a haven for wildlife and biodiversity, with wildflower beds, tall grasses and feeders attracting woodpeckers, goldfinches and the eponymous nuthatch. Guests may encounter butterflies, bees, bats, owls and even grazing deer in the adjacent Forestry England land. At night, the snuffling of wild boar can sometimes be heard in the undergrowth.

Whether you’re cosying up by the fire in winter or enjoying the garden in summer, Nuthatch Retreat offers a truly distinctive and peaceful escape, deeply connected to the beauty of its natural surroundings.
