The Cob at Montpelier is a luxurious Bed & Breakfast near Hay-on-Wye, set within four acres of beautiful gardens and wild meadows, a perfect retreat to unwind and connect with nature. This unique cob house, crafted from straw and lime render with exposed Douglas fir timbers and a living roof, stands independently just 30 metres from a charming 200-year-old stone cottage.
Guests can immerse themselves in the tranquil surroundings, relaxing on the verandah where red kites and buzzards soar overhead and perhaps catch a glimpse of a Roe deer darting through the meadows leading to Brilley Wood. Inside, The Cob features two rooms designed for ultimate comfort. The Sitting Room invites you to snuggle up by the wood-burning stove, with large windows and a skylight filling the space with natural light by day and offering a view of the star-filled skies at night.
The bedroom boasts a king-size bed with a wool mattress, ensuring comfort year-round and offers serene views of the garden, orchard and wild meadows. The en-suite bathroom is a standout feature, with a walk-in shower, plank-effect tiles, a quirky basin and fluffy towels warmed on the radiator for added luxury.
Guests can enjoy a leisurely start to the day with a choice of an Aga-cooked full English or a Continental breakfast, served at their preferred time, either in the Sitting Room or on the verandah. A fridge stocked with fresh milk is provided for making tea or coffee at any time. The Cob offers a serene escape, blending natural beauty with modern comfort for an unforgettable stay.
A minimum stay of two nights is required, with a maximum occupancy of two adults per night, as The Cob is an adult-only Bed & Breakfast. Please note that heating or cooking food is not permitted within The Cob and dogs are not allowed. Due to its rural and rustic design, The Cob is not suitable for guests with mobility issues.
