Birchwood Camping
Details
Birchwood Camping is a small, secluded site located in the tranquil hamlet of Hatfield on the Herefordshire and Worcestershire border. Family-run and set across 6.5 acres of picturesque farmland, the site offers just 10 spacious pitches, allowing for a peaceful and uncrowded experience. Guests also have access to an additional 26 acres of traditional pastureland, with sweeping views stretching towards mid Wales. This rural setting is perfect for those looking to unwind and reconnect with nature.
The site is naturally divided by ancient hedgerows into two distinct areas. The Meadow is a gently sloping, south-facing 5-acre field with six pitches, including two dedicated for campervans. It’s ideal for families, with pitches mown into long grass and a beautiful, open layout. A pre-erected 5-metre bell tent called Barn Owl is also available for those new to camping or booking last-minute. At the top of The Meadow is a timber building housing hot showers, flushing toilets and a covered food preparation and washing-up area. Mains water is available around the field and each pitch comes with a fire pit. While vehicles aren’t permitted on the pitches, a separate parking area is provided along with wheelbarrows and trolleys to help move your equipment.
The Quarry offers an even more secluded 1.5-acre field bordered by mature woodland and home to just four pitches cut into a wildflower meadow. This peaceful area includes features such as a small stream, a disused steam railway embankment and the remnants of an old quarry face. It’s perfect for campers looking for a more private, back-to-nature experience. The Quarry is serviced by a shower shack, compost loo and a washing-up point, with mains water and fire pits available. Wheelbarrows, trolleys and even a quad with a small trailer are on hand if needed to help transport gear.
Around the site, you’ll find various seating areas thoughtfully placed to make the most of the landscape, from quiet, sheltered corners to higher spots with far-reaching views and breathtaking sunsets. Midway through The Meadow, a beautifully furnished bell tent sits on wooden decking beside a chill-out area complete with table, chairs, cooking equipment and a campfire space. This glamping option includes a comfy king-size bed, two futon mattresses for children, a mini pizza oven, picnic basket, cool box, solar lighting and all the essentials you need for a hassle-free stay, just bring sleeping bags. A two-night minimum stay applies.
Whether you're a couple or a family looking to reconnect with nature, Birchwood Camping offers a unique and memorable experience in the great outdoors. As proud members of the Greener Camping Club, the site embraces eco-friendly values and provides thoughtful touches like real campfires and a small pizza oven, adding extra charm to your stay.
