Situated above Corran Sands, at the gateway to the Paps in the crofting settlement of Knockrome, Bothan Jura Retreat has been created as a sanctuary to unwind, reconnect and immerse yourself in the wild beauty of the Isle of Jura. It’s a space designed for both guests and its creators to embrace the rugged tranquility of this extraordinary landscape.

On-site, guests can enjoy a range of amenities, including a chilled and filtered ice barrel, pizza ovens, a fire pit and a telescope for stargazing under Jura's dark skies. For quieter moments, there’s a library filled with books to browse and enjoy. Later this year, a workshop and studio space will be ready to host meditation, yoga, or casual games of pool and table tennis. It’s also the perfect gathering spot to connect with others, share stories, or simply watch the storms sweep across the bay before the sun invites you back outdoors.

Mrs. Leonard's

Mrs. Leonard’s is a restored stone cotters' cottage transformed into a cosy open-plan living space. It features a kitchen with a hob, oven, fridge and coffee machine; a sitting area with a log-burning stove; and a comfy double bed with an en-suite shower and toilet, complete with underfloor heating. Outside, a private south-facing garden with a picnic table offers stunning views over Corran Sands and Small Isles Bay toward the village of Craighouse. Guests can enjoy a wood-fired hot tub, a two-person electric sauna, and a cold-water outdoor shower, perfect for cooling off, refreshing after the sauna, or relaxing before a soak as the sun sets. In the evening, fairy lights and a fire bowl create the perfect atmosphere for stargazing and late-night chats.

The Black Hut

The Black Hut is a snug and beautifully designed retreat for two, featuring an open-plan double-height living space with a log burner and a sofa that converts into a double bed. A library ladder leads to a mezzanine with a king-size bed and a skylight offering views of the bay or the stars. The hand-crafted kitchen is equipped with an oven, hob and fridge/freezer and there’s a shower room with a toilet and sink. South-facing patio doors open onto a deck with a table, chairs and a bench, perfect for morning coffee, a late-night dram, or simply enjoying the wildlife, the sea views, or passing Atlantic squalls.

The Rusty Hut

The Rusty Hut combines traditional charm with modern comfort, featuring tongue-and-groove panelling in soft earthy tones and a gable end clad in reclaimed teak from Southport Pier, once walked by entertainers like Charlie Chaplin. The open-plan living space includes a log burner, a sofa that converts to a double bed, a full kitchen with an oven, hob and fridge and a shower room with a toilet and sink. A library ladder leads to a mezzanine with a king-size bed and a skylight offering views of the bay and stars. South-facing patio doors open to a private, tree-sheltered garden with a wood-fired hot tub and fairy lights, overlooking an old pond and Corran Sands. Bird food is provided to keep the feeders full, making this the perfect spot to relax, enjoy nature and unwind under the stars after a day of exploring.

Our accommodation is situated within the crofting community of Knockrome, just four miles north of the island's main village of Craighouse along Small Isles Bay. It serves as the perfect basecamp for exploring the island, whether you’re seeking adventure, hiking, climbing, running, swimming, cycling, kayaking, bird watching, or simply relaxing and unwinding in this peaceful setting.
