Lochranza Country Inn
Details
Situated at the northern tip of the Isle of Arran, Lochranza Country Inn sits within the stunning North Arran National Scenic Area, surrounded by sea, hills and abundant wildlife. This 120-year-old inn has been carefully restored under community ownership by the North Arran Community Benefit Society, ensuring it remains a welcoming hub for both locals and visitors for years to come.
Located in the heart of Lochranza village, the inn offers seven cosy en-suite rooms, each reflecting the charm and comfort of a traditional Scottish stay. After a day exploring the island’s rugged hills, coastal paths or watching red deer along the shoreline, guests can return to a peaceful and relaxing retreat. All guest rooms are situated on the first floor and are accessed via a single flight of stairs, as there is no lift available.
Dining at the inn is centred around the Rowan Restaurant, where freshly prepared dishes showcase local ingredients in a warm and relaxed setting overlooking Lochranza Bay. With seating for around 22 guests, the restaurant offers beautiful views across the terrace to the loch, while the walls display artwork from local artists, celebrating the creativity of the Arran community.
The bar features an impressive collection of over 275 whiskies, including rare bottles and a selection dedicated to Scotland’s ghost distilleries. Guests can also enjoy whiskies from Arran’s own distilleries in Lochranza and nearby Lagg, alongside a range of Scottish gins, local beers, quality wines and soft drinks.
Lochranza is an ideal base for exploring the quieter, more rugged north of the Isle of Arran. Right in the village, Lochranza Castle sits dramatically on the shoreline, while nearby Arran Distillery offers tours and tastings of its renowned whisky. Outdoor enthusiasts can take on the challenge of Goat Fell, the island’s highest peak, or enjoy gentler walks through Glen Rosa and along the coastal paths. A short drive leads to Machrie Moor Stone Circles, where ancient standing stones create a striking and atmospheric landscape. With opportunities for wildlife spotting, including red deer and seals, the area offers a perfect blend of history, scenery and outdoor adventure.
