Tamworth Cottage at Great Prawls Farm
Details
Tamworth Cottage is a detached self-catering holiday cottage situated on the Kent and Sussex border, close to the historic town of Rye and only fifteen minutes from sandy beaches. Situated in a peaceful rural setting, it offers a tranquil countryside retreat with opportunities for farm walks and wildlife watching. The surrounding area is steeped in history and culture, with a wealth of attractions including ancient castles, beautiful National Trust gardens, heritage steam railways and antique shops to discover.
The cottage has been tastefully converted to retain its charm, featuring antique beams and a vaulted ceiling that together create a bright, spacious interior full of character. The style is warm and traditionally country, offering comfort and a welcoming feel. Towels and bedlinen are provided for guests, ensuring a relaxed and well-equipped stay.
At the heart of the cottage is the triple aspect lounge, a bright and airy room with far-reaching views across the valley. It’s an inviting space to return to after a day exploring, offering a homely atmosphere and an ever-changing view of the countryside. In spring, lambs can be seen frolicking in the fields and at other times of the year, guests can enjoy the sight of bluebells and the presence of local wildlife.
The open-plan kitchen and dining area is both practical and inviting. It includes a formal dining table and chairs, alongside a modern kitchen fitted with all the essentials: a gas cooker, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave, washer/dryer, iron and ironing board. The family bathroom is fitted with a bath and an electric shower overhead, along with a hand basin and WC, offering convenience and comfort.
Fully furnished throughout, the cottage has two separate bedrooms, a spacious double and a twin room with two full-size single beds. Both are dressed with continental style bed linen and fresh towels, creating a restful environment for a good night’s sleep.
Outside, the large garden provides plenty of space for children to run and play freely, while the patio area offers a delightful setting for outdoor dining or evening relaxation. With a garden table, chairs, and comfortable loungers, it’s the perfect spot to watch sheep grazing in the fields or to enjoy a glass of wine as the sun sets over the countryside.
Nearby, medieval Rye and the town of Tenterden offer further charm and exploration, while Camber Sands provides an ideal place for a swim. Local gardens such as Sissinghurst, Hole Park, Pashley and Batemans are all worth visiting, and nearby historic sites include Bodiam Castle, Leeds Castle and the famous Battle Abbey. Families can enjoy rides on the steam trains from Tenterden and New Romney, meet animals at the Rare Breeds Centre in Woodchurch, or take a trip to Port Lympne Zoo to see exotic wildlife.
