Church Farm Guest House

Mitchel Troy, Monmouth, Monmouthshire

Details

Church Farm Guest House in Monmouthshire is a charming, homely and spacious 16th century former farmhouse in the small hamlet of Mitchel Troy near Monmouth it has carefully adapted to provide comfortable accommodation whilst retaining the original character.

Church Farm is a grade II listed building. All guest rooms have some original timber features in the form of oak beams, exposed lintels or portions of roof timbers. The ground floor has the most character, dating from the mid 16th Century. Both the dining room and lounge have high ceilings and fireplaces with large stone lintels. The lounge has a rare example of an Elizabethan ceiling with moulded beams and moulded joists both on show.

Church Farm features in Bradney's 'A History of Monmouthshire'. It details the family tree of the Tyler family, occupants at least into the first half of the 19th century. In 1944 Church Farm ceased to be a working farm and was a family home until 1988 when its development into a guest house was started.

There is a good variety of rooms, all with private facilities. This means there is the flexibility to accommodate groups and family parties of varying sizes as well as individuals and couples etc.

In simple terms the building is L shaped, giving two separate areas of accommodation. Each has its own sitting room. There are 5 bedrooms in the main house, each en suite with shower.

We offer a good choice of breakfasts and can provide evening meals and packed lunches by arrangement. Where possible we use local or home grown produce and are happy to cater for vegetarians and other dietary requirements.

Evening meals by arrangement- 3 courses with coffee at £19. Packed Lunches available for £7.

From Mitchel Troy there is easy access to the A40 and historic Monmouth, with its unique fortified Norman Bridge, is only two miles away. Church Farm is an excellent base for exploring the Wye Valley, Forest of Dean and Usk Valley. Abergavenny and the Black Mountains are less than half an hour's drive. The cities of Bristol, Cardiff, Hereford, Gloucester and Worcester are all under an hour away. We are only 15 miles from the M48 at Chepstow and even closer to the Ross end of the M50.

Although we no longer run our own walking holidays, we know the area well and can still assist walkers of the Offa's Dyke Path or Wye Valley Walk with transport if using us as a base for 2 or more nights. We are well used to walking groups and regularly accommodate cyclists on the Land's End to John O'Groats route (plenty of cycle storage space)

With numerous golf courses in the region, Rolls of Monmouth and Monmouth Golf Club are only a few miles away, we also attract golfers and for canoeists there are hire facilities in both Monmouth and Symond's Yat.
