Mill Ford House Riverside Bed & Breakfast

Sculthorpe, Norfolk

Details

Mill Ford House offers a riverside bed and breakfast in a beautiful wooden lodge perched on the edge of the River Wensum, surrounded by stunning countryside and overlooking Sculthorpe Moor Nature Reserve. It is an incredibly peaceful and tranquil setting, perfect for a relaxing break.

The Lodge sits within its own private garden on the banks of the river, where guests can enjoy the sights of visiting wildlife such as kingfishers, swans and the local cattle that come down daily to drink. The Lodge is completely self-contained and very well equipped, featuring a king-size double bed and a small kitchen and dining area. The kitchen includes a fridge with icebox, oven, hob, grill and a Nespresso coffee machine for your convenience. There is an en-suite bathroom with a shower and toilet. The Lodge also offers a strong, free WiFi connection, a flat-screen TV with Netflix, and central heating to keep you warm and cosy on cooler days. Outside, a wooden deck runs along the Lodge, furnished with comfortable recliners and a small barbecue for those warm summer evenings. There is also a hot tub to relax in after a day out exploring the area.

To start your day, we provide a wide range of breakfast options, including granola, fruit juice, yoghurt, fresh fruit, bread, croissants and homemade jams and marmalades. A selection of teas and coffees is also available. We often have plenty of eggs from our own hens and bacon to accompany them if you fancy a heartier meal. Breakfast is provided directly to the Lodge, allowing you to enjoy a leisurely morning at your own pace.

We also have self catering options available.

Over the years, we have gathered a menagerie of animals, including two Shetland ponies, Tommy and Solomon and Jimmy the donkey. We also keep chickens, guinea fowl, ducks and Jonathan’s current passion, pedigree Kerry Hill sheep, meaning there are lambs to enjoy in the spring. Well-behaved dogs are very welcome; we have three of our own, a pair of Labradors and a lively Cocker Spaniel. The Lodge garden is fenced, though adventurous dogs might find their way into the river.

For those who enjoy sports, we have a hard tennis court and are happy to provide rackets. We also have bicycles available for guests who wish to explore the surrounding countryside.
