Litcham Hall, Litcham, Norfolk
Situated on the edge of a conservation village in the centre of Norfolk, this fine listed 18th Century House is set in three acres of garden, half an hour from the unspoilt North-Norfolk coast.
This is an ideal place from which to visit anywhere in Norfolk, whether towards King’s Lynn in the west of the county, or Norwich in the east.
Many well known houses and garden open to the public are within easy reach including, of course, the great houses of Sandringham, Houghton, Holkham and Blickling.
Two Double Bedrooms, en-suite:
The large double bedrooms, measuring 16ft square, have big windows looking onto the garden, with yew hedges, a lily pond and mixed borders.
Twin Bedroom, with private bathroom:
The twin guest room is available with a private bathroom adjacent to the bedroom.
Guests are welcome to relax in the garden, which has given the family a lot of pleasure over the forty years since they came to Litcham. John and Hermione have found the design and planting of their garden from scratch the most satisfying project. Yew hedges make a dramatic backdrop for mixed borders and the framework for a sunken area with a little lily pond and fountain.
Behind the house the swimming pool is sheltered in part of a walled garden, with a brick-arched veranda loggia down one side. The swimming pool has provided fun for children and visitors over the years, and is still available for use on request. It is only heated in mid-summer.
Strolling along mown paths through the wild garden is a delight in spring when the snowdrops, azaleas and bluebells are out: in summer you emerge from this spinney through a pergola covered in climbing roses and wisteria.
The walled Italian garden was inspired by the desire to put to best use some beautiful inherited stone urns. Now artfully positioned in a parterre of lavender-filled, box-edged beds, the urns make an elegant finishing touch to a formal composition entirely suited to the period of the house.
