The Old Rectory

Howick, Alnwick, Northumberland

Details

We offer a comfortable retreat in a beautiful coastal location. Relax in our large, well-appointed ensuite double or twin bedrooms which feature additional seating, freeview tv, bathrobes and luxury toiletries. Enjoy a local beer or glass of wine in our cosy guest sitting room, or out on the lawn watching our ducks or the hares and pheasants in the next field.

We offer a wide range of breakfast options including full English featuring Northumberland sausages and bacon and eggs from our own hens. All dietary needs are catered for.

We can also provide a packed lunch to take with you on your adventures. In the evening you can choose from great local pubs and restaurants or why not stay in and enjoy one of our home cooked meals?

Smokey, Patsy, Eddy and Oswald are our resident cats. They never visit the guest rooms, but can often be seen relaxing in the guest sitting room.

We are located in the quiet village of Howick with plentiful off-road parking. The village is part of the Howick Estate, which also features Howick Hall Gardens and Arboretum, a short walk away. Explore the gardens and view the church where the first Earl Grey, reformer and creator of the eponymous Earl Grey tea is buried. Take the long walk from the Hall gardens down through the arboretum, past the garden pond to the coast.

There are many other beautiful walks to be enjoyed, including the Northumberland Coast Path north to Craster or beyond. Cyclists can join the Coast & Castles route, which runs past the house.

Howick Haven is a beautiful calm beach just 400 yards walk away. From there you can follow the coast path south past wide white sand beaches to Boulmer, or beyond to Alnmouth.

Craster is a quaint fishing village famous for its smoked kippers and the start of a lovely walk north along the coast to the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle.

Inland you can visit Alnwick, home to Alnwick Castle, of Downton Abbey and Harry Potter fame. Also within driving distance is Warkworth with it’s Norman castle, Seahouses where you can take boat trips to the Farne Islands to see seals and puffins, and Bamburgh Castle.
