The village has a 13th Century church, shop, post office and several literary connections. It was the early home of Thomas Hughes, whose renowned book "Tom Brown's Schooldays" begins in the old school here. It is now an interesting little museum. John Betjeman lived here in the 1930's and 40's, during which time he wrote many famous works. Tolkein, while based in Oxford, visited this area and it is said much of his inspiration for Middle Earth came from the Ridgeway nearby.
We are also an ideal base for walking, cycling, horse riding, angling, visiting historic properties, golfing or just chilling out at any time of the year.
