Dan Y Coed Cottage, Llanidloes, Powys
Dan Y Coed Cottage was a former gardenerís cottage beautifully converted into a holiday cottage situated in Llanidloes in Powys. If you are seeking a self catering holiday cottage in mid Wales or Powys that has beautiful countryside, splendid views, access to hillside, mountain top, river, or coast, with the benefits of sympathetic renovation with traditional and original features, this is for you.
The shaker style kitchen in the holiday cottage includes a double sink, dishwasher, fridge, microwave, and oven with cooker hood. A solid oak dining table provides seating for 4. At the heart of the living room is a wood burning stove set in a slate fireplace. This cosy room has TV, books, games and DVDs.
The bedrooms have original Georgian doors, fixtures and fittings, exposed beams, nooks and crannies with stories to tell about the past. The double bedroom is comfortably furnished with Laura Ashley soft furnishings and lighting. It has a modern en suite with a shower, toilet, wash basin and heated towel rail. The twin room is styled in fresh country gingham, each guest has their own bedside table and lamp. Quality towels and bed linen are provided during your stay as is a hairdryer. A hand rail follows the staircase but be aware, one side is open and small children will need supervision. The roll top Edwardian bath in the self catering cottage is matched with a heritage style toilet and wash basin. The tiled floor is warmed with under floor heating.
A cot, high chair, child pack carrier are available on request. Parking for two cars is available, either within the garden on a driveway at the side of the cottage, or road side parking in front of the property.
The garden rises steeply into the hillside at the back of the cottage. This feature is typical of the area where houses were built into the hillside from which the stone was quarried. A small driveway adjacent to the property leads onto a steep footpath which follows up the bank to an upper lawn. A stream flows through this area and the steepness of the land means that young children will need supervision.
There are many beautiful and distinctive nature trails, ranging from 1km to 15km at Bryn Tail, Clywedog, Source of the Severn, Gilfach Nature Reserve, Hafod, Nant yr Arian and the Elan Valley. All of these walks are well marked and are only a 5 minute drive and no more than 40 minutes from Dan y Coed by car.
The nearest coastal town is Aberystwyth. Being a university town it is a vibrant place with itís arts centre, cinema, shopping, cafes and night life. Aberdovey has beautiful sandy beaches. There is fun for all the family, this is a great spot for crab fishing, wandering around the fishing boats, choosing a favourite ice cream, views, sunsets and a meal out, make for a perfect day.
