Details

Kilsby Cottage is a charming and well-equipped self catering cottage set beside Kilsby House, surrounded by 2.5 acres of gardens and private woodland rich with wildlife. Overlooking the peaceful Irfon Valley, the cottage offers clean air, fresh hillside spring water and spectacular views in every direction. With no artificial light to disturb the night sky and only the sounds of nature around you, this is a place where relaxation comes naturally.

The downstairs space features a large open-plan living, dining and kitchen area, along with a well-equipped separate bathroom. An entrance hall and lobby provide practical storage for bikes, fishing gear and outdoor clothing. Recently refurbished to a high standard, the cottage offers sweeping views from every room. The sitting and dining area is furnished with comfortable cane seating and includes a smart Freeset TV, video, DVD, stereo CD player and radio. Free WiFi is available.

The kitchen is fully fitted with an electric cooker, dishwasher, microwave, slow cooker and fridge freezer. The spacious shower room houses an automatic washing machine and an iron and ironing board are provided. The cottage is double-glazed and centrally heated, with individually controlled radiators to ensure comfort throughout the year. A highchair can be made available on request.

Upstairs, there is a double bedroom and a twin bedroom, with an additional fold-up bed or travel cot available if needed. Each bedroom includes bedside lockers, a recessed double wardrobe, dressing table and hairdryer. The cottage is ideal for up to four adults, with a small surcharge applied if a fifth adult stays. The shower room includes a large walk-in cubicle with grip rails and a removable seat, along with a sink and toilet. The cottage is strictly non-smoking indoors, though guests are welcome to smoke in the surrounding gardens.

Outside, guests have access to a reserved secure parking space, a private seating area and the expansive gardens that stretch across the front and side of the main house. Barbecue equipment and outdoor furniture are available and there are several secluded seating spots throughout the garden where you can enjoy uninterrupted views of the upper Irfon Valley. Bird feeders are regularly stocked, attracting a wide range of birdlife, including pied flycatchers that sometimes nest in the provided boxes. Its peaceful, secluded setting is complemented by convenient access to local amenities, including a restaurant, coffee shop, 2 food shops, a petrol station and several pubs in the small town of Llanwrtyd Wells.

A breathtaking route leads from Kilsby through Abergwesyn and the upper Irfon Valley, taking in the dramatic Devil’s Staircase, the sweeping landscapes around Llyn Brianne reservoir and the stunning Tywi Valley before reaching Llandovery, just 11 miles away. Builth Wells offers cultural entertainment at the excellent Wyeside Arts Centre, which hosts both cinema screenings and live performances. The Roman Gold Mines at Dolaucothi, only half an hour from Kilsby, provide a fascinating glimpse into ancient history. Nature lovers can enjoy peaceful walks at the RSPB reserves of Dinas and Gwernffrwd, while families will find plenty to excite young explorers at the Dan-yr-Ogof showcaves. Further afield, day trips can easily be made to the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth or to the beautiful beaches along Cardigan Bay and Wales’s West Coast.
