North Down Orchard Glamping

Haslebury Plucknett, Crewkerne, Somerset
Sleeps: 1 to 4

Details

First-time visitors to North Down Orchard Glamping often comment on the beauty of its setting. The picturesque hamstone farmhouse with its thatched roof dates back to the 16th century and forms the heart of the estate. In the old farmyard you’ll find The Cider Barn, where guests can purchase home-grown cider to take away, or at weekends enjoy a fully stocked bar and freshly cooked food in a relaxed atmosphere.

Accommodation is set in a hay meadow or woodland, surrounded by ancient hedges, mature trees and abundant wildlife. Sustainability is at the core of the site, with electricity and hot water powered by solar panels, composting toilets designed to reduce water usage and facilities built using recycled and upcycled materials wherever possible. Hundreds of trees have been planted across the grounds, while the farm itself follows principles of regenerative agriculture and runs on biofuels, making it both environmentally conscious and in harmony with its surroundings.

Guests, however, do not need to sacrifice comfort. The oak-built showers and composting toilets are cleverly tucked among the trees to blend with the landscape, while the communal field kitchen provides a fridge freezer, microwave, electric hob, kettle and washing-up facilities. Seating is available at tables and chairs or on log benches in a peaceful woodland glade, offering plenty of spots to gather and relax.

Accommodation options include two sizes of bell tent. The 5-metre standard tents are furnished with a double bed, rugs, table and chairs, electric lighting, sockets and tea-making facilities for a classic glamping experience. The larger 6-metre deluxe tents feature a king-size bed, extra furniture and stylish décor for added luxury. Each tent has its own fire pit, BBQ and outdoor seating area. Guests can also choose to stay in Niamh’s Hideaway, a traditional shepherd’s hut set in a secluded position on the edge of the water meadow, providing a tranquil escape surrounded by the adjoining nature reserve.

During their stay, guests are welcome to explore the farm’s 73 acres, which include 40 acres of cider apple orchards, wildflower meadows, grassland and woodland dedicated to wildlife. Trails around the farm offer opportunities to wander at leisure, while longer hikes can be enjoyed on the Monarch’s Way and Liberty Trail footpaths that cross the land, with the Parrett Trail just a mile away. Nearby cycle routes also provide scenic ways to explore.

If you’re keen to explore beyond the farm, the Jurassic Coast and the charming seaside town of Lyme Regis can be reached in just 35 minutes by car. Closer to home, there is no shortage of things to see and do, from walking at Ham Hill Country Park to visiting historic Montacute House, the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton and the Haynes Motor Museum. The Somerset Levels, Wells and Glastonbury all offer their own unique character and heritage, while cultural highlights such as Hauser & Wirth in Bruton and the landscaped gardens of The Newt near Castle Cary provide inspiration and beauty. Blending rich history with eco-friendly values and modern comfort, North Down Orchard Glamping promises a countryside escape that is both relaxing and unforgettable.
