Field Beck
Details
Tucked away on a quiet lane at the edge of the village of Cartmel, Field Beck looks out across the medieval priory and has all the grace of a Georgian house that Jane Austen herself might have admired. This Grade II Listed home is filled with light and every room offers lovely views while catching the sun throughout the day.
The house has been carefully conserved and furnished with antiques and vintage pieces that highlight its historic character. Drawing inspiration from Landmark Trust properties, the modern touches have been added with care, ensuring the building’s quirks and individuality remain intact. If you appreciate a comfortable home with real character, Field Beck will not disappoint.
On the ground floor you’ll find a welcoming sitting room with a wood-burning stove, a dining room, a scullery and boot room and a kitchen with breakfast area that still features original stainless steel units from the 1950s. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms, two doubles and one twin, with one double room including its own washbasin. A family bathroom completes this floor, while above, the large attic provides an additional space to relax with another TV.
Beneath the house, the original cellars with their stone flagged floors add to the sense of history, and a games room with dartboard, snooker and football tables offers plenty of fun. There is also an additional toilet at this level.
Outside, Field Beck is surrounded by a large walled garden, complete with pond and stream, offering a peaceful and private setting. The patio is a sunny spot ideal for barbecues and outdoor dining. The house comfortably accommodates six people, with discounts available for smaller groups, and a well-behaved dog is welcome to join your stay.
Cartmel is famous for its 800 year old Priory, its picturesque village square, its charming racecourse and for being gastronomic heaven! All the pubs do good food and there are several exceptional restaurants nearby, one of which, L’Enclume, has been voted Britain’s best restaurant three years running. There is a cheesemonger, an artisan bakery, a chocolatier and a micro-brewery as well as a delicatessen (home of the world famous sticky toffee pudding) and a regular open air food market. It really is a foodie’s dream.
The village is set in a lovely valley and, being off the main tourist routes, it is ideally placed for visiting the Lakes. The New York Times vote ranked Cartmel 44th on its list of best places to visit in the world.
