All supplies would in those days have been transported around the country by horse-drawn carriage. The Inn was established as a ‘watering hole’ and stopover because additional horses had to be attached to pull the carriages up the very steep hill on the other side.

Barley Mow Inn is a rural pub that has been around since 1800 that provides ales, French wines and farm cider. The inn is located in the hilltop village of Kirk Ireton which is close to Ashbourne, Derbyshire. The inn is one of the oldest buildings in the village. This is a great place to visit, surrounded by beautiful countryside and plenty of things to see and do.
The main bar has a roaring fire, places to sit and it is where ales such as Abbeydale Daily Bread and Northumberland Bosuns Bitter are served as well as other beverages. The only food served is lunchtime rolls. Outside there is a garden area and benches out the front.
